Healthy Body

To look and feel our very best, we need to nourish our bodies with a variety of fresh fruits and veggies and lots of whole grain. These are the resources needed to build bones and keep organs functioning properly.  It's important to know what chemicals have been added to our food and to eliminate as many as possible.

What you think is a healthy snack, may be nothing but empty carbohydrates or full of high fructose corn syrup, which is pure sugar. Even canned vegetables are loaded with sodium and sugar.

Overcooking and microwaving actually destroy nutrients. Easy, cooked meals that are visually appealing can be assembled quickly by slicing vegetables in thin matchstick or paper thin pieces. If you use organic canned vegetables,  be sure to rinse them first in a colander to remove sodium and metallic residue.

Try not to use chemically coated cooking pots or pans. Steaming is a great way to preserve nutrients. Purchase organic vegetables, fruits and meats whenever possible.

Chopped garlic, herbs, olive oil and a splash of low sodium soy sauce or rice wine vinegar or balsamic vinegar will add lots of flavor without adding sodium. Food that has been altered in any way through irradiation, added food coloring, hormones or genetic engineering may be detrimental to your health.

Organic rice, soy or almond milk can be bought in the grocery store, they come in a box, needing no refrigeration until opened. Best of all, they contains no antibiotic residue or hormones and may even prevent your children from having chronic ear infections and colds.

An easy and quick dessert idea for all occasions includes, sponge cake cut into squares, good quality chocolate, rice milk and a drop of vanilla heated in a fondue pot or regular saucepan on top of the stove. Let everyone dip cake or pieces of fruit in the melted chocolate and sprinkle with fresh shredded coconut or chopped nuts. Positively heavenly and so easy!
